CityCycle Turns One
(10/10/2011)Brisbane City Council along with JCDecaux, are proud to announce CityCycle’s first birthday this October 1st. One year after launch and the public bike hire scheme can boast over 500 trips daily to 104 stations throughout the inner city by more than 7,000 subscribers.
CityCycle, designed to compliment Brisbane’s already extensive public transport network, has helped renew the river city as well as commuter habits and mindsets. With the adoption of new initiatives including courtesy helmets, $2 daily subscriptions and express cards the scheme is undoubtedly the most affordable and sustainable public transportation option available to the Brisbane community.
With this in mind, stage 2 development of the CityCycle scheme is currently underway with 150 stations and 2000 bikes proposed for operation by March 2012. The network is planned to reach as far as St Lucia with stations through Toowong, Auchenflower, Milton and Southbank.
